ONE WORD REVIEW: ICONIC
Sam Mendes’ direction combined with Roger Deakins’ cinematography creates nothing less than a masterpiece. The long eight- and nine-minute scenes are sewn together seamlessly giving the impression that the film is one continuous shot. George Mackay’s acting shines in the fast-paced plot, which has short performances from some well-known British faces, such as Richard Madden, Colin Firth, Benedict Cumberbatch, Andrew Scott and Mark Strong. A truly iconic piece of cinema, due to its individuality in scene length, and the terrific screenplay, which is a combination of multiple stories from the First World War, gathered by Sam Mendes from his grandfather.
