Just Mercy (2019)

Updated: Jun 9, 2020

5/5

ONE WORD REVIEW: EYE-OPENING

Destin Daniel Cretton’s ‘Just Mercy’ is just brilliant. Based on a true story, the film showcases the institutional racism in Alabama, USA, while following a young black lawyer (Michael B. Jordan) who seeks to get prisoners off of death row, an act which was not previously accomplished. His main fight is for the innocent Walter McMillian (Jamie Foxx), accused of murdering an 18-year-old white girl. The acting is incredible, the narrative is remarkable, and has audiences screaming at the injustice shown towards black people in America, recently, as well (1980s). One of the best films of 2019, bringing a very much necessary narrative to the forefront of audiences minds.
