ONE WORD REVIEW: EXPECTED
Another classic Woody Allen movie. Although the script is hilarious, at points, the humour feels somewhat forced. The concept of the plot is simple; a young couple, Gatsby (Timothée Chalamet) and Ashley (Elle Fanning) go to New York City, and the rain, as well as other characters, affect their weekend, and their future, significantly. This simple concept causes some of the connections between characters, and the narrative itself, to also feel forced. The acting and direction are magnificent, but the characters do feel as if they are taken straight out of a ‘how to write a story’ book. A good film, but it feels more like an ode to old Hollywood, rather than an innovative film.
