ONE WORD REVIEW: EMPOWERING
A true story of a female liberation group who targeted the Miss World Competition of 1970. Kiera Knightley’s, Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s, Jessie Buckley’s, and Rhys Ifans’ performances are particularly outstanding. Offering a perspective on the positives and the negatives of the Miss World Competition, regarding the patriarchal and racist society of the time, the film is exceptionally innovative. The sexist lines said in the film are laughable, and the strength of each woman, both those who are against and for the competition, is hugely inspiring. The end of the film shows the differences between the actors and the people on whom the characters were based, which is perhaps the most special moment of the entire movie. Compelling performances and narrative.
