Days of the Bagnold Summer (2019)

4/5

ONE WORD REVIEW: COMIC

After his Dad refuses to let him stay in Florida over the summer, Daniel (Earl Cave) is forced to remain in England with his single mother (Monica Dolan). The film’s very British humour is understated, but simultaneously forces audiences to laugh out loud. Director Simon Bird offers viewers a really feel-good hour and a half in this movie, which was adapted from the original story by Joff Winterhart. The acting from these relatively unknown stars is just fantastic, evoking sympathy and laughter from audiences, with the familiar mother-son duo’s conversations. Exploring the difficulty of single-parent families, and adolescence more generally, the film is really likeable and relatable to many.
