ONE WORD REVIEW: TOPICAL

A film about dirty, racist cops in the 1967 riots in Detroit, USA. Based on true events, not only is this film an incredibly enlightening and terrifying experience, showcasing the need for the Black Lives Matter movement, but it is also terribly upsetting that ethnic minorities are fighting the same battles today against police, as they were over fifty years ago. Filmmaker Kathryn Bigelow is brilliant, as expected, and her actors, despite the horror of some of their actions, are excellent. Focusing on one specific evening, and the danger of complicit police officers, as three policemen use unacceptable techniques to try to find out about a weapon, which simply does not exist. Horrible to watch at times, but very necessary, particularly at this moment in time.
