ONE WORD REVIEW: OUTSTANDING

Rupert Goold’s interpretation on the life of Judy Garland, who came to fame at an extraordinarily young age, experiencing a variety of hardships as a result. While focussing on her life thirty years on from her performance in ‘The Wizard of Oz,’ and her relationship with her fifth husband, Micky, adversities from her past are explored using a younger version (Darci Shaw). These scenes are interesting, but Renée Zellweger is so fantastic, that any scene she is not in cannot help but be slightly disappointing. Thoroughly deserving of the Academy Award for Best Actress, as Zellweger transforms herself completely, from facial expressions to her voice, into the world-renowned Judy Garland. An amazing performance, which excels an astonishing film.
