ONE WORD REVIEW: UNDERWHELMING
Giving insight into the true story of the feud between Ferrari and Ford in, yes you guessed it, 1966, the film shows the power of pure talent and passion, as well as the power of friendship. The storyline is relatively well known, and therefore to keep audiences engaged director James Mangold focusses on the two main characters, American designer Caroll Shelby, played by Matt Damon, and British driver Ken Miles, played by Christian Bale. Bale’s Birmingham accent is slightly annoying, and contrasted with his wife’s, played by Caitriona Balfe, is even worse. The director ensures that audiences know precisely who to hate and who to love, which I feel limits the actor’s performances slightly, and the power of the narrative. However, the film still remains a good watch and one that should draw a lot of audiences worldwide.
