ONE WORD REVIEW: AVERAGE

Brian Helgeland directed and wrote the screenplay for this biographical thriller about the infamous Kray brothers. The brilliant Tom Hardy plays both of the twins and allows audiences to differentiate between them using pitch and weight. At times, the cinematography struggles due to Tom Hardy’s multi-rolling, as expected, and some of the fight scenes feel slightly drama school rather than feature film as a result. The story is fascinating and genuinely gives a sense of the power and authority of the Krays at their peak. The main issue with the film has to be Emily Browning’s narration while playing Reggie’s lover. With cringe lines, and a voice simply not made for storytelling, this element really detracts from the overall impact of the film on audiences, disappointingly.
