ONE WORD REVIEW: REAL
Sally Rooney’s novel is done complete justice in its TV series adaptation. Marianne (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and Connell (Paul Mescal) fall in love in school, and the audience are taken on a journey with them, discovering their hardships, and other relationships that stand in the way of their happiness together. The series has very sexual themes and scenes, but the beautiful direction and acting makes it seem natural, rather than icky. Set in picturesque Ireland, between Sligo and Dublin, audiences see the two characters mature, as the tables turn for each of them. A loveable narrative, with surprisingly relatable characters, and 12 short episode lengths of less than half an hour – brilliant.
