Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019)

Updated: Jun 9, 2020

4/5

ONE WORD REVIEW: SLOW

A young female painter goes to paint the daughter of a friend of her father’s, who requires a portrait for her future husband but refuses to pose for it. The film is set in France in 1770. It explores a homosexual relationship that develops between the two women, with beautiful scenery surrounding them, and a lovely young servant to wait on them. The French movie is quaint, and the ending is fabulously surprising. Director Celine Scammia offers the audience another brilliant piece of foreign cinema.
