ONE WORD REVIEW: AMAZING

A life-changing book. A series of letters written from Celie, a young black woman living in an unhappy marriage in Georgia in the early 1900s, to God. Unfortunately, due to the sexual content, the novel has been banned in schools. However, it is simply a must-read, sympathetic to racial struggles in the twentieth century, while exploring homosexuality and domestic abuse. Terribly compelling, and therefore very emotional. What I would give to read this for the first time again. Alice Walker is an incredibly brave writer, underserving of the controversy regarding its status as one of the most frequently banned books.
