ONE WORD REVIEW: ECCENTRIC
Starting at the end, The Gentleman is extraordinarily engaging, with a star-studded cast, and a narrative which is somewhat Shakespeare’s famous ‘play within a play’ style. Hugh Grant is a private investigator, hired by Big Dave (Eddie Marson), editor for the ‘Daily Print’ who takes an interest in cannabis dealer Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey) and his empire. The violent nature of the subject of the film adds to the entertainment, and there are many comic moments, involving actors such as Colin Farrell and Michelle Dockery. Performances are outstanding, and Guy Ritchie’s direction is inspiring, hooking audiences with the multiple twists in the non-linear narrative.
