The Last Black Man in San Francisco (2019)

Updated: Jun 9, 2020

4/5

ONE WORD REVIEW: UNUSUAL

A very slow film, without much action, but remains very moving, and the cinematography is beautiful. Based on the true story of Jimmie Fails, who plays himself, and his desire to live in the house that he believes his grandfather built, in San Francisco. Jimmie is a young, part-time nurse who lives with his friend ‘Mont’ and Mont’s blind grandfather, on returning to San Francisco after having been pushed out like so many others in difficult circumstances. A beautiful soundtrack accompanies this film which explores the race divide in San Francisco, and themes of friendship and gangs.
