ONE WORD REVIEW: AESTHETIC

Robert Louis Stevenson’s narrative works better as a book than on the stage, but the National Theatre’s casting of female Patsy Ferran as the male Jim works perfectly and offers a different interpretation of the famous character. Without the amazing design elements, such as the set, lighting and use of sound, the production would not have been as brilliant. These elements are the sole reason why this performance is enjoyable, as the weak humour and structure of the narrative are quite boring, in all honesty. Recommend reading the book, rather than watching this performance. Fortunately, it is a short play, of only an hour and 45 minutes.
