ONE WORD REVIEW: CHALLENGING

Etsy abandons her Orthodox Jew family and life in New York and finds a new life for herself in Berlin. It is a powerful concept to showcase the life of a female Orthodox Jew attempting to escape her life for a life of more ‘freedom’, however, it does seem to be a difficult concept to portray on screen at times. A lot of the jokes don’t hit, and most scenes feel like a challenge to watch; so awkward and uncomfortable. The writing is flawed, and the acting isn’t great, which isn’t helped by the unbelievable relationships, and kindness of strangers towards Etsy. The lives of Orthodox Jews are incredibly interesting to those on the outside, and it is nice to see a group which is not usually shown onscreen, represented. It is just a shame that the production is of poor quality.
