ONE WORD REVIEW: ICONIC
Winner of the 1962 Academy Award for Best Film, this classic musical which was first performed on stage in 1957, was adapted to screen by the fantastic directors Jerome Robbins and Robert Wise. The catchy songs and also brilliantly cringeconcept of the musical are always enjoyable. The film version is fantastic, particularly with famous actors such as Rita Moreno and Natalie Wood. Available on Netflix, with some iconic scenes such as the Jets’ clicking opening scene, everyone should watch this classic, quintessential piece of cinema. A new film version of West Side Story, directed by Steven Spielberg, is due to be released on December 18th this year, starring Ansel Elgort and Maddie Ziegler. However, it will be tricky to recreate such a perfectly enjoyable piece of cinema.
